Erectile Dysfunction (ED)
Erectile dysfunction, often termed ED, is a progressive problem for men as they age. There are a number of contributing elements to this including:
- Vascular insufficiency
- Chronic medical conditions including hypertension and diabetes
- History of prostate problems including prostate cancer, prostatitis, enlarged prostate, prior prostate surgery
- Stress and mental state
How Common is ED?
If you’re suffering from erectile dysfunction, you aren’t alone. In fact, ED is much more common than you might first think. An estimated 1 in 10 adult men suffers from erectile dysfunction on a long-term basis. This number increases with age; however, that doesn’t mean ED needs to be the norm for aging men.
Signs You May Suffer from Erectile Dysfunction
If you’ve been experiencing the following symptoms, you may have ED:
- Unusually difficulty or inability in achieving an erection
- Inability in maintaining an erection sufficient for successful intercourse
- A reduced desire for sex
Keep in mind that an occasional issue with sexual desire or performance does not necessarily indicate erectile dysfunction. If, however, you are failing to achieve an erection more than half of the time or if the problem is more persistent, you may need to make an appointment to receive a proper diagnosis.
How Can ED be Treated?
Effective treatment involves addressing each of these conditions. During your consultation, we will develop a treatment plan to decrease your symptoms. Foremost will be addressing your testosterone levels and associated hormones.
